Guitar Hero IV Drum Kit in the wild

While we whittle away the days awaiting a local release of the much anticipated Rock Band, the Activision crew have been getting their act together (sorry about that one) by putting a prototype drum kit of their own through it’s paces. Part of the development of new instruments for the upcoming Guitar Hero IV title, their team has come up with this kit, which includes 3 drum pads, a kick, and 2 cymbals.

Google Street View is Incredible

Street View Stack

Really, there is no other way to title this post. If you’re not entirely aware, Google have been taking their Maps product to the next level, providing street level imagery to better help you find the latest Bunnings et. al. However, this also throws up the opportunity to catch random moments in time that will be forever captured in time (or at least in Google’s cache for a while). In the 60’s, the man walking on the moon was considered memorable footage. These days, we have a visual record of some guy crashing on a bike, Street View style.

Duelling drumkits

Guitar Hero Drums

Okay, so our obsession with the yet-to-be-released-in-Australia Rock Band game is yet to be soothed. Well, if it ever scores a retail release in Australia, it could coincide with a bit of competition. The developers of the popular title Guitar Hero, Activision, have reportedly been quoted as saying that the next generation of Guitar Hero title could also include a microphone component, and a drum set!

It will never be cold enough for this…

Sternlab laptop interface

Sometimes different styles and fashions are considered an acquired taste. Well, I don’t think there’s any amount of acquiring that could go on in order to find this item fashionable. It is called a Body/Technology interface, and more specifically, a Laptop interface “for privacy, warmth, and concentration in public spaces”. We’re sure if you wear this around your friends you’ll be enjoying a certain type of privacy shortly after.

Check out more pictures at Sternlab here.

New PS3 controller: New here, cheaper elsewhere…

Dual Shock 3

For those who want to start to feel their hands shaking while playing video games, put down the jug of coffee and get your hands on one of these. As of April 24th, Sony Australia will be releasing a Wireless Dual Shock 3 controller for your trembling pleasure.

What’s interesting about this is the SRP of AU$99.95. While there will be a core of hardcore punters, as well as well-meaning but unenlightened older parents/relatives, paying full price for one of these things, some quick browsing on the Internet will almost always find you a better price. Tresling…what?

tresling

If you thought the bare simplicity of Tetris couldn’t be improved upon, well, you are probably right. However, a bunch of folks have put a page up on the interwebs to demonstrate how they plan to bring a little more of a physical challenge to the table.

Attack of the UMPCs: The race to the bottom

Asus Eee PC vs Normal Laptop (sm)

Following the fanfare of the Asus Eee PC’s introduction in the last year, a bunch of other manufacturers have jumped on board the bandwagon in the race to the bottom. We’ve already covered HP’s upcoming effort, but some more to enter the race include:

MSI Wind PC (presumably to match your Nintendo Wii)
Everex Cloudbook
Intel Classmate PC
OLPC XO
VIA Nanobook
E-Lead Noahpad
Fukato’s Datacask

Flickr Flicks

Flickr Video

As of the other day a new player came into the online video sharing town. And this wasn’t just a recent internet start-up looking to usurp market behemoth YouTube. Flickr, one of the world’s largest online Photo repositories has allowed users to upload video to the site. You may be thinking, “So what? Why will this get people off using YouTube?” And there is at least one good reason why Flickr will be able to make a red hot go at it:

1. Clips uploaded will be limited to 1min 30sec.
