iPhone Wrap: Our Thoughts

This is the one tech issue that has had the world buzzing over the past week. After filtering through hundreds of blog posts, forums,a nd news articles, Headwires brings you a summary of local release information so far:

Availability

The iPhone will be released in 22 countries around the world on the 11th July 2008. Australia is one of those countries, and thanks to time differences, will be one of the first markets in the world where it will be available.

Google Street View is Incredible

Really, there is no other way to title this post. If you’re not entirely aware, Google have been taking their Maps product to the next level, providing street level imagery to better help you find the latest Bunnings et. al. However, this also throws up the opportunity to catch random moments in time that will be forever captured in time (or at least in Google’s cache for a while). In the 60’s, the man walking on the moon was considered memorable footage. These days, we have a visual record of some guy crashing on a bike, Street View style.

Sternlab laptop interface

Sometimes different styles and fashions are considered an acquired taste. Well, I don’t think there’s any amount of acquiring that could go on in order to find this item fashionable. It is called a Body/Technology interface, and more specifically, a Laptop interface “for privacy, warmth, and concentration in public spaces”. We’re sure if you wear this around your friends you’ll be enjoying a certain type of privacy shortly after.

As of the other day a new player came into the online video sharing town. And this wasn’t just a recent internet start-up looking to usurp market behemoth YouTube. Flickr, one of the world’s largest online Photo repositories has allowed users to upload video to the site. You may be thinking, “So what? Why will this get people off using YouTube?” And there is at least one good reason why Flickr will be able to make a red hot go at it:

1. Clips uploaded will be limited to 1min 30sec.
